Match Report: U18B Girls Hockey vs. Durham High School for Girls
On a bitterly cold Wednesday afternoon, the U18B girls faced Durham High School for Girls with a large squad eager to take the field. Despite the challenging conditions and the strength in numbers, the game presented unexpected difficulties as we found ourselves playing below our usual level.
Throughout the match, it became evident that we had eased off, perhaps too generously, and allowed the opposition to challenge us more than they should have. At times, it seemed like many weren’t giving their full 100%, which kept the game closer than expected. However, when it mattered most, the team rallied to show their true capability.
Durham capitalized on a lapse in concentration, scoring a goal that temporarily put us on the back foot. Yet, the setback sparked a response, and with quick passing and sharper focus, we equalized through a well-crafted team goal. The momentum shifted, and soon after, we broke through again with a decisive second goal, displaying the skill and determination we know the team possesses.
Despite the game not being our most polished performance, the team did enough to secure the win, holding on for a 2-1 victory. While it wasn’t the dominant display we had hoped for, it was a valuable reminder of the importance of consistent effort and staying at our best.
Final Score: U18B 2 – 1 Durham High School for Girls
Well done to the team for pulling through with the win, but there’s plenty to reflect on as we strive to bring our best to every match.
