The U13a’s began the season with a tough assignment against Hymer’s College. In a game of three 20 minute thirds the team began slowly as Hymers’s strength and power broached the Barney defense regularly, running in 8 tries.

Barney grew into the game, though, growing in confidence and standing up to the impressive Hymer’s attacking play. Positive moments lead to a breakaway try for Barney in response to Hymer’s 6.

The final third saw Barney show further signs of improvement as a further two tries ensued. It was pleasing to see perseverance and team spirit develop throughout the game and plenty to build on for the remainder of the season.
