The U15s began their season with a trip to Giggleswick. Due to consistent poor weather over the Lent term we were thankful for the game to be on utilising Giggleswick’s astro turf strip on their junior games field. Barney won the toss and elected to bat. Barwick and Hunton won some initial battles calling well and rotating strike in the opening overs. Both were unlucky to fall cheaply due to some indifferent bounces on the playing surface. The following batters fell cheaply commonly playing across the line or calling poorly between batsmen. Fluen and Cass both came in and accelerated scoring with some power hitting however, the second of 4 run outs led to the tail being called upon and few runs being added to our final score of 88 runs all out.
Taking the field Barney were optimistic of keeping the game tight and defending their score. Calvert and Fluen both bowled accurately in their spells and Captain Barwick improved after some initial loosening overs. Catching chances were created regularly however, none were taken and regular extras allowed the batting side to gain momentum and add pressure to our bowling and fielding. Giggleswick knocked the runs off within 14 overs and for the loss of 1 wicket.
Some work to be done on batting and running between the wickets. However, the game served its purpose and there is signs of potential in all facets of our game. Onwards and Upwards!
