A strong performance by Barney U12s on a hot and sunny afternoon. Playing at home the squad coped with a late shift of pitches and played on the unfamiliar setting of the school astro turf. Taking to the field the squad adapted admirably to the playing surface and all the opening bowlers bowled straight and full leading to early wickets. When bowling changes occurred the momentum continued with further wickets following accurate fielding from the captain Brown, Emson, Stephenson, Griffin and Summerson-Brown behind the stumps. A very strong performance with the ball led to Pocklington were dismissed all out for 63 runs. Going into bat the squad were challenged to push the run rate by calling and running aggressively between the wickets. Reid and Emson set the tone very well playing patiently and punishing bad deliveries. When Reid was dismissed on 15 Thornton accelerated the scoring in the same manner. He was dismissed for 15 runs, some lessons by both batters after similar decision making errors to playing back to full balls. When Summerson-Brown came into bat there was 4 runs needed to secure the win. After two balls to get his eye in he sealed the win with a huge 6 over mid on much to the delight of his fellow team mates and the home crowd. Well done boys.
Special mentions to Emson for his man of the match performance. He followed instructions calmly and was positive in his batting yet not reckless. With the ball he was equally as effective. Captain Bremen was a continual positive presence and did well throughout the game. Summerson-Brown was tidy and showed potential behind the stumps. Stephenson took an excellent catch in the field. Finally, well done to Hindle for stepping in as a late replacement, he bowled well and fielded with accuracy. The team are very thankful for your efforts.
